Doing. I’ve been a doer since I was a child. When I was eight, I rearranged the entire upper floor of our house and reassigned everyone to a different bedroom. Trying out exciting things or organizing activities — I was always busy. Still am. But thankfully, something has changed: what I do now has to be useful. It has to mean something. Like doing something for someone else. That’s what gives me energy. That’s what makes me feel good. Helping out at a charity mussel festival? I’m in. A bike ride, a city trip, or dinner with friends? Count me in. Being bored doesn’t exist in my vocabulary. I can’t help it — or maybe I can. Even at home, I can’t sit still for five minutes. There’s always something to do. Wanting is not enough — you have to do.”
